Pot Advocates Win in MA; Turn to Federal Government

Bag of PotOn election night, Massachusetts voters agreed to a ballot question that would decriminalize possession of and ounce or less of marijuana. Now the same advocates who succeeded here want to take their case to the Federal level.

According to the Associated Press,

Now local advocates point to a bill introduced by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, which would decriminalize possession of marijuana in amounts of 3.5 ounces or less anywhere in the country.

Keith Stroup of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws said he hopes the bill can lead to hearings and spark more support from lawmakers.

Still, even Frank himself views a national effort to ease marijuana laws to be dead-on-arrival.
