Is Anyone Surprised? MA State Troopers Audited For Gas Card Usage
November 11, 2008 by Administrator
Two retired members of the Massachusetts State Police – along with eight others – are under internal investigation because charges on their gas cards “warranted a closer look.”
That’s according to reporting by the Boston Herald.
Apparently, more than 2100 troopers have take-home cars which allow them to drive directly to an emergency or a detail. Those cruisers come with a gas card that can be used to fuel up the tank on the taxpayer’s dime.
According to the Herald,
“The overall goal was to identify potential discrepancies between expected fuel use and actual fuel use in department vehicles that would be an indicator as to whether department vehicles were being used appropriately,” Procopio said.
“Beginning in July, we audited 2,150 fuel cards. Of those, 10 warranted a closer look,” he added.
If found guilty of abuse, the troopers could face suspension or firing.
